ABOUT
Behind Les MarquIz stands Izabel, born in France in 1976.
In 1998, during an internship, Izabel discovered Indonesia and fell in love with Asia. She then moved to Japan and Korea. Finally settling in Japan in 2005, Izabel began learning Japanese calligraphy, and has since participated in annual group exhibitions for over a decade. Through her many experiences, Izabel has developed her own unique style of deconstructed calligraphy.
Inspired by her 20 years living in Asia, she uses ink on washi paper for contemplative creations that can be associated with “bokusho”, the art of abstract expression through the medium of Japanese calligraphy. Passionate about art and travel, Izabel visited the Marquesas Islands (Les Marquises in French) in 2019. Deeply moved by the islands’ culture and the wildness of its landscapes, she developed the project of creating art to reflect the beauty of Nature, under the name “Les MarquIz”.
